I can pay it forward

I've been sewing and gluing (and, in my free time, studying) for the past couple months, and now I have finished my pay it forwards! I found this way cute purse pattern, so I decided to make Christina a purse (she picked out the fabrics from the ones I had - I like the combination a lot), and I made a book for Joseph.

There is still no third claiming comment, so, if anyone wants to play . . . this is the post . . .

Yay for Pay it Forward!

(and P.S. Yay for finals being over!)

Slide Film in the Kitchen

Feast your eyes on these:

eponymous milk

potato portrait

shiny green bottle

I'm having way too much fun experimenting with different kinds of photography. Don't you just love the way slide film looks? Check out those dust specks and scratches and black borders--those are the genuine article, no filters baby!

I love the convenience of digital, but there is just something so genuine about real film. I've got more rolls to shoot and a lovely film camera to shoot them with (thank you, Daddy!) so stay posted.

WARNING: may contain non-food related subjects

So, I've been taking an awful lot of pictures. I mean an awful lot. And not all of them are of food, either. So, even though it defies the theme for this blog, I'm posting some of them.
So, Joseph, here you go, I do have a means of effectively distributing pictures.
Christina and Mary came to visit Provo on Saturday and we had a party in a hat (Michael, that phrase is now solidly stuck in my head, I hope you are happy with yourself). Here is some documentation of our trip to the park.
Think it looks like fun? Come visit and see for yourself!

St. Patrick's Food

How can you have St. Patrick's Day without corned beef and cabbage? I don't think you really can, so I made some. I also made some Irish Soda Bread, which turned out okay, and some potatoes, which turned out just about how potatoes usually turn out.

I'm sure everyone already has their own recipe for corned beef and cabbage, but just in case you don't, here's the one I made, and it's so good!

Corned Beef and Cabbage

1 head cabbage
1 can corned beef
a little water

Cut up the cabbage and put it in a big pot with a little water. Break up the corned beef and put it on top, cook it with a lid on until the cabbage is soft.

Yay for Irishness! Happy March.

I Love Lettuce.

. . . Or, more accurately, I love salads. But declaring one's affection for "salads" does not lend itself to such quaint alliterations as for "lettuce" . . . Lettuce Love.

I also love lemons and oranges and brothers who bring them to me and sisters who gave them to brothers and especially mothers who supplied them . . . Lemon Love.

So, combine lettuce and fresh squeezed lemon dressing and not only do you get a lovely alliteration, but the resulting salad is quite nice as well. I also threw on some Swiss cheese and bread crumbs, just because I like them, even if they are not fortunate enough to start with Ls.

And, on an unrelated note, I also love my dishwasher.

Conversation Shamrocks!

Here's a little bit of St. Patrick's Day math for you:

We made Conversation Shamrock Cookies at my house today! It was pretty much amazing: TXT a Leprechaun, Pinch Me, Luck of the Irish, Let Your Sham Rock, etc. It really was a ton of fun, and Elisabeth and I decided we MUST make this a St. Patrick's tradition.
We made some orange ones because my roommate Melissa told us that in Ireland the people wear orange on St. Patrick's Day instead of green.

This is my roommate Dasily. Look-she has red hair!

Elisabeth decorating up a storm.

Happiness is a table-full of shamrocks.

Teamwork.

Yay for cookies!

After cookies, we had some French Onion Soup, which I neglected to photograph after we put it in mugs, since I was so excited to eat it. But here it is cooking:

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
(note the green apron - thank you Mother!)

p.s. If anyone wants recipes for anything, let me know, I totally have them.
